This is our first wine from our Candlestick Ridge, Howell Mountain property, a Rhône-style Grenache/ Syrah (Alban clone) that we have dubbed "Côte de Craig" in honor of those tremendous hillside vineyards in the south of France. Just six barrels were made ... and these will dissapper into the cellars of Craig conoisseurs quickly.
Our ode to Côte Rotie from our Candlestick Vineyard at 2300' is an unapologetic monster. Classic in style due to the terrific mountain acidity, the CDC is nevertheless breathtaking in the complexity of aroma and flavor. Leather, new tobacco, white peppercorn, seared bacon fat and volcanic stones rush from the glass. The Alban clone Syrah on 110R is really showing its stuff at the stony summit of Howell Mountain.
